Liberty County Jail Roster

The Liberty County Jail Inmate Roster in Texas is a public resource that allows you to check if a specific person is in custody. LibertyCourt.us helps quickly find publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, information can be obtained through the official Liberty County Sheriff's website, by phone, or in person at the jail. A search in the roster allows you to find out the detainee's name, admission date, charges, and custody status. The roster is maintained by the Liberty County Sheriff's Office, updated regularly, and posted on the county's website.

Search Current Inmates in Liberty Jail

To find information about an inmate, use one of the methods below.

Online Search

  1. Go to LibertyCourt.us and enter the person's first or last name to view available court and criminal records.
  2. Visit the Sheriff's Office page on the Liberty County website — if a list of current inmates is posted there, it is usually presented in a scrollable table. If there is no separate search field, use the Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) keyboard combination to find the last name on the page.
  3. To check criminal history at the state level, use the Criminal History Name Search from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

To start the search, you will need:

  • The person's full official first and last name (as in documents)
  • Booking number, if known

Juvenile records are not displayed in the public register.

Find Liberty Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment when the detained person is officially admitted to the jail. During this procedure, the following data is recorded:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • List of charges
  • Name of the arresting agency (city police, sheriff, DPS, etc.)
  • Personal data of the detainee — name, date of birth, photo

These records are part of the public jail register. They can be viewed in several ways:

  1. Roster on the Sheriff's Office website — if the county publishes an online roster, booking records are automatically displayed in it.
  2. Public information request — according to the Texas Government Code, Chapter 552, you have the right to submit an official public information request to Liberty County. The request can be sent in writing to 1923 Sam Houston Street, Liberty, TX 77575.
  3. State-level criminal history — the Crime Records Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety maintains records of arrests and convictions from all counties in the state.

If you need court documents for a criminal case, contact the District Clerk Liberty County — this office keeps records of criminal and civil proceedings at the county level.

Search the Liberty Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The inmate roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the search field or find it on the roster page using the browser function Ctrl+F. If the system allows, add the first name to narrow down the results. A few tips:

  • Check the spelling — one mistake can lead to no results.
  • Try different spellings if the last name has multiple forms (e.g., with or without a hyphen).
  • Some systems support partial search: enter the first few letters of the last name.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate identifier. It is usually provided to relatives during the detainee's first call or when contacting the jail. Enter this number in the appropriate field, and the system will show one specific record.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a name in the roster does not always mean the person has not been detained. Possible reasons:

  • The booking procedure is not yet complete — data appears with a delay.
  • The person has already been released on bail or by court decision.
  • The name is recorded differently than you expect (alias, maiden name).
  • The detainee has been transferred to another facility.

In such a case, call the jail directly at (936) 336-4500 to clarify the person's status.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Liberty

The Liberty County inmate roster is updated periodically but not always in real-time. Between the actual admission of a detainee and the appearance of their data on the site, several hours to a day may pass — depending on staff workload and technical factors.

Main limitations to keep in mind:

  • Publication delay. New records appear after the booking procedure is completed, which includes photographing, fingerprinting, and entering data into the system.
  • Disappearance of records after release. The roster only displays those who are in custody at the time of viewing. After release, the record is usually removed from the public list.
  • Not an archive. The roster is a snapshot of the current state, not a database of all past detentions. To search for old records, use the Criminal History Search from Texas DPS or submit a written public information request.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes the name or charges may be entered incorrectly — if you are sure the person is in custody but do not see them in the roster, contact the jail directly.

According to the Texas open records policy, most information about adult detentions is public. However, some data — such as inmate medical records or materials related to an ongoing investigation — may be restricted from access. If your request is denied, you have the right to appeal this decision through the Texas Attorney General's office.
